Diluted EPS (earnings per share): what it is and how to read it

What it is

Net income divided by the number of shares. “Diluted” includes shares that may still be issued (e.g. employee stock options).

How to read it

More important than one year's value is the trend over several years: earnings per share growing steadily is more reliable than a one-off jump.
